ABOUT US
Neurointerventional Radiology, sometimes called Neurointerventional Surgery or Interventional Neuroradiology, is a sub-specialty practiced by fellowship-trained neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, or vascular neurologists to treat vascular diseases of the central nervous system. Conditions treated include, but are not limited to, acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion, intracranial atherosclerotic disease, intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and arteriovenous fistulae. Other conditions of the head and neck include extracranial carotid and vertebral artery occlusive disease, subdural hemorrhage, acute or chronic epistaxis (nosebleed), vascular trauma of the head/neck, and intracranial or extracranial tumor embolization.
In all cases, minimally invasive endovascular techniques are utilized, which has the advantage of shorter procedure times and quicker patient recovery. Endovascular devices are introduced through small catheters in the peripheral arteries, and then advanced to the abnormality within the head, neck, or spine. Metallic coils, vascular stents, clot-retrieval devices, and liquid embolic material are all examples of therapeutic devices commonly used by the neurointerventional specialist.
The Southern NeuroInterventional Institute (SNI) was established in order to bring these life-saving, advanced technologies to smaller communities along the Gulf Coast region. SNI is currently affiliated with Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, MS, for procedural and inpatient care, as well as basic outpatient services. We currently provide Locums Tenens coverage as needed at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette, LA.
At SNI, we are pleased to serve our communities across the Gulf Coast region. Our founder, Dr. Zachary Jefferson Liner, was born and raised in Hammond, LA, and resides in Covington, LA. He graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 2002, and subsequently graduated with a degree in biology from Emory University in 2006. He received his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in 2010. He completed residency training in Radiology in Rochester, NY in 2015. He went on to complete fellowship training in vascular and interventional radiology at Texas A&M – Scott & White Hospital, followed by additional fellowship training in Neurointerventional Radiology at the University of California – San Francisco in 2017.
